"When I was a little bitty baby
My mama would rock me in the cradle
In them old cotton fields back home.
It was down in Louisiana,
Just about a mile from Texarkana,
In them old cotton fields back home.
Oh, when them cotton balls get rotten,
In them old cotton fields back home.
It was down in Louisiana,
Just about a mile from Texarkana,
In them old cotton fields back home.
Oh, when them cotton balls get rotten,
You can't pick very much cotton,
In them old cotton fields back home.
It was down in Louisiana,
Just about a mile from Texarkana,
In them old cotton fields back home."Growing up in Texarkana, one would think that I would be somewhat familiar with this song. Must have been before my time, but the only Creedence Clearwater Revival (CCR) songs that I had heard were from popular movies such as Forrest Gump and Remember the Titans.

But here in South Africa, it seems like everyone, young and old, is familiar with this song. As a result, when we say we are from Texarkana, almost every person has heard of our small town although most can't point it out on a map.
I was untroduced to this song this summer also when we were in Chicago and told Carl Kassel ( from Wait Wait Don't Tell Me on npr) we were from Texarkana! Crazy song!
