African Adventure

Since South Africa is much like home and life in the U.S., David and I headed north for a vacation to Tanzania for a taste of  "the real Africa". We spent two weeks enjoying all that Tanzania has to offer including cute kiddos, interesting tours and amazing animals.

Our vacation started with a tour of the Kahawa Shamba coffee plantation on the lower slopes of Mount Kilimanjaro where we learned the process of making coffee - from picking the berries, roasting the beans and brewing the freshest cup of coffee we have ever had.

We then volunteered as ambassadors at Amani Children's Home, a home for street children in the town of Moshi. We spent the week playing games, helping the cooks, making arts and crafts and teaching the kids about Texas.

After our week at Amani, we headed out on safari through Lake Manyara, Ngorongoro Crater and Serengeti National Park. We saw all kinds of animals, including 4 of the "Big 5" and a successful lion hunt just meters in front of our truck.

We finished the trip with a relaxing, early-anniversary getaway to the island of Zanzibar. We spent a few days touring Stone Town and a spice farm, snorkeling and enjoying the warm, sunny weather before heading back down to wintery South Africa.

We had a blast and can't wait to share more about our adventures with you in the next few days!
